Today we're celebrating the release of...
Tap the App.

Hi, I'm Moji. Tap the App  brings early learning to life.
When Two through Five year-old children open my book...
small fingers tap Colors, Numbers, Shapes, and Letters.
Pages Turn...

Transforming Pictures into Knowledge.
Fascination and Fun await!

Picture
Becky Blystone teaches preschool and loves to read to her students.

She wrote Tap the App to compile basic early learning skills into a full-color 32 page picture book that can be read to the youngest of children---over and over again!

Interactive picture books engage young children, making  learning basic concepts easy and fun. Becky will be reading Tap the App to her 3 to 4 year-old students as a fun way to review the many skills her student have learned through the school year.

She advocates the importance of parents reading to their children every day for fifteen minutes. "Kids LOVE to be read to and learning happens automatically."

---Anne (aka....Becky)

P.S.  I read Tap the App on April 27th to one of my preschool classes. (I was sooooo nervous!) They LOVED it! Watching their fingers tap the pages and see what happens on the next page felt surreal....priceless.

I hope to write more Moji Books under my real name---Becky Blystone, while keeping my pen name, Anne B. Cole for my supernatural suspense books.

Coming soon....a Suspense Thriller!
Have a great SPRING!

Eclipse 2017 ---Road Trip to Princeton, Kentucky Aug. 21, 2017

Picture
"Mom, PLEASE let me skip school and let's drive to see the eclipse on Monday," my 17 year old son begged last week.

I looked at him and knew exactly how he felt...I've wanted to see a total eclipse my entire life...To experience darkness for over two minutes at mid day...to see the moons shadow stretch across the sun...to witness the burst of light of the 'Diamond Effect'....yep! I wanted to see it....LIVE....but I'm an adult...

"Seriously, Bud? You want me to drive over five hours to watch the eclipse when there are NASA videos posted online of what it will look like anywhere in the U.S.?" The adult in me needed to make the decision here. "We will be able to see the eclipse right outside our door. I have a preschool teacher work day on the 22nd at 8:30 am and you have school."

"The shadow will only cover 92% of the sun here, Mom. We have to be in the path of totality. PLEASE, Mom. I'll drive some of the way. If we go to Kentucky it'll only be about five hours down and five back."

"Ten hours of driving for an 8% difference?" I had to give him a hard time even though at this point the little kid in me had conquered my adult side and I had decided to go.

"You know you want to see it, Mom...it's a once in a life time thing."

"I saw a partial eclipse back in the 90s And...in seven years another solar eclipse will occur with the path of totality in our back yard." I tried really hard to contain the smile that was spreading across my face.

"You know, Mom...It could be cloudy in 2024...." He started to grin because he knew he had me.

"It could be cloudy in Kentucky on Monday," I was already developing a plan to pack my camera, a cooler, lawn chairs, and make a pin hole projector.

"Can we go ...PLEASE?"

I waited two days and checked with the school---traveling to watch the eclipse was an excused absence. I was thrilled the little kid in me had the opportunity to override the adult part of me  "Check the path of totality, Bud. We want to go to a place where there isn't going to be a ton of people....not Hopkinsville."

He researched little towns just off the highways and decided on Princeton, KY. It didn't take much persuasion to get my husband and one of my daughters to come. My other daughter is at college already and I know she would have loved to have gone with us.

Monday morning we left at 5:00am to give us plenty of time to get there for the start at 12:00CDT. The forecast was sunny and hot...no clouds! We made it to a super center parking lot in Princeton by 10:30 CDT--- along with hundreds of others. The store manager walked around and told all of people that they would overlook the loitering law. They even passed out solar glasses to folks who didn't have them. We played cards, did a little shopping, and then got ready for the celestial show.

"It's starting!" A tiny edge of the sun had started to hide behind the moon. Everyone had on their solar glasses and some people---including me---used mirrors to reflect the sunlight on to a white board. We had fun looking at the sun through the glasses. We also reflected the image on a white board with a mirror and watched the sun slowly hide behind the moon.

Picture
Picture
I continued to snap pictures with the solar glasses over my lens. The sun became smaller and smaller....During the hour and twenty minutes that it too for the moon's shadow to cover the sun, I took some amazing pictures with my digital 35mm camera. This one is right before totality.

And then....it happened....Totality...I took the safety glasses off my camera and took these shots. We could look at the sun without the safety glasses at this time for two minutes and forty seconds....the longest totality anywhere in the United States.
Picture
Picture
It was AMAZING! I realized it was fairly dark and that the temperature had dropped at least 20 degrees.

We knew totality was coming to the end when we saw the upper right side of the sun begin to bulge. The Diamond Effect was coming....the brilliant flash of sunlight peaking out from behind the shadow....the end of totality. I heard my son shout..."Here it comes!" I pressed the shutter of my camera and caught a glimpse of the dazzling sunlight shooting out from behind the moon's shadow. It flashed for a mere split second and was the most incredible thing I've ever seen in the sky. The 'Ooohs' and 'Ahhhas' of onlookers filled the air. It was truly a once in a life time experience. And.....here are the pictures I took.
Picture
We had to put our solar glasses back on to watch the moon's shadow continue its path across our star. Many people began packing up. I took more pictures.
Picture
Picture
Soon the parking lot had emptied and we packed up our chairs and cooler to leave. I drove the first three hours and we had traveled less than 50 miles to the southern tip of Indiana at a snail pace. After an hour dinner break and six more hours of driving.... we made it home. The adult in me grumbled about the traffic....the little kid smiled the entire time and is still smiling. Would I do it again? Absolutely!

At preschool's meet the teacher night, one of my student's parents showed me a picture he had taken here in Indiana. It was cloudy during the 92% eclipse so there wasn't much to see in the sky...but take a look at what he captured on the ground. The sunlight filtered through the trees and created crescent shadows. Incredible!
Picture

April 8, 2024, will be the next total solar eclipse in the United States. We won't have to drive 4 plus hours to get to a totality viewing place.....or creep in traffic over eight hours to get home....The path of totality will run through my home town. What we will need is another sunny day. If it happens to be cloudy...l'll take pictures of the ground.

No matter what the weather will bring in 2024, I'll have these pictures. Big thanks to my son for bringing out the inner kid in me in 2017.

Happy celestial gazing.

The Trouble With Nerds: The Newest Morrison Family Novel by D.R. Grady

Picture
Author D.R. Grady's most recent release, The Trouble With Nerds has had me carrying my Kindle with me everywhere I go.  Here's the front cover and the blurb on the back...

Odd things keep happening to Dr. Sara Newton. She’s a soon-to-be-unemployed pediatrician with an alleged stalker, a hot cop on her heels breathing dire warnings, and way too much student debt.

It doesn’t help that the hot cop is Clay Morrison, her best friend’s older brother. The man has made her heart pound and her palms sweaty since puberty. The trouble is, he only interacts with her when he’s expounding on new security measures. He sees threats everywhere.

Clay Morrison is frustrated. He hates his new job, misses his Army Ranger days, loves his well-meaning, pushy family—and when did sweet Sara Newton grow up? She won't admit she has a stalker, and she won't keep out of his thoughts. He can only protect someone in denial for so long. No matter how attractive she is...

Clay and Sara are circling each other, trying to meet in the middle. Then a brand new threat sends them in a completely different direction.

I love reading sweet romance! The Morrison Family Series combines strong family values with a small town feeling...all mixed in with a little suspense that keeps me turning pages. Here's a peek at a short excerpt from The Trouble With Nerds.

Clay placed a hand at the small of her back and ushered her out of the hospital. He didn’t move it until they reached the front passenger door of his massive SUV. Sara calculated the distance between the passenger seat in relation to the ground.
“I’m wearing a pencil skirt.”
“I can see that.” No indication whether he approved of this state or not.
Maybe she could step into the huge vehicle sideways? There was no way she could avoid flashing the fact she did still possess a few pairs of underwear if she had to step up into his SUV.
She sighed.
Clay opened the door, scooped her around the waist, and swung her into the vehicle. All without breaking a sweat. He buckled her seatbelt with professionalism. Then shut her door in the same detached manner.
Did I miss something?
Her breathing had only just resumed normal operations when he strode around the vehicle. The man didn’t use the running board to climb in. Like a normal person. He stepped into the driver’s seat as though this beastly SUV was car-sized. Muttering under her breath about tall people, Sara settled into the seat.
“Dinner?”
Her heart tripped a beat. “What?”
He repeated the question.
“What about it?”
“Do you want to go somewhere for dinner?”

Whoa! I haven't read to that part yet....I'll have to stop blogging and read more!

Chocolate Pretzel Crack...highly addictive and easy to make!

Picture
Chocolate Pretzel Crack is a yummy treat I make every Winter.

The chocolate, pretzel, caramel, salt combination is truly addicting---so much so I only make it when I know I will be  giving most of it away.
There are only five ingredients and it is ever so easy to make.

First, line a jelly roll pan with aluminum foil. Cover the foil with mini pretzels. I like the waffle shaped ones. It takes less than half a bag of pretzels.

Picture
Picture
Next, melt 2 sticks of butter (1 cup) and 1 cup light brown sugar in a medium saucepan. Stirring constantly, allow it to boil gently until it reaches 250 degrees F. on a candy or instant read thermometer.
Pour the hot, smooth, caramel mixture over the pretzels. Place in the oven at 350 degrees F. for five minutes.
Picture
Remove from oven and sprinkle a 12 ounce bag of chocolate chips (I like the dark chocolate ones) over the caramel and put back in the oven for one minute or until the chips melt.
Picture
Spread the chips to make a smooth layer.  Sprinkle coarse Kosher or Sea salt. Let cool on the counter. Place it in the freezer for three hours before breaking it into bite sized pieces.
Picture
I make sure I take it out of the freezer when my kids are not around. The salty/sweet combination of the pretzels, chocolate, salt, and caramel is so hard to resist, we simply call it "Crack".

Enjoy!

Last Minute #teachergifts for Anyone!

Gift giving for Teachers can be TOUGH!
As parents, we truly appreciate the time and effort teachers spend with our children, so how do we show our thanks at the holidays?

I've been a teacher for over 20 years and here is one of my FAVORITE gifts that I received in 2016 from one of my preschoolers.

Smells of the Season Potpourri.

Inside a wide-mouth Ball canning jar place 2 Clementines, 2 Cinnamon Sticks, 6 Cloves, and a half cup of Fresh Cranberries.
Tie a ribbon around it with a note similar to the one in the picture and you're done.

Picture
As a teacher, coming home from the Last Day of School before Winter Break I was both relieved and exhausted. After I unloaded my loot of assorted cookies, cards, ornaments, and coffee mugs from the car, I immediately grabbed a saucepan, dumped the content of the jar into it, and added some water directly from the faucet---no, I didn't peel the clementines nor did I measure two cups of water. I placed the pan on the stove and made myself a cup of tea.

By the time my tea was ready, I could smell the wonderful scents from my gifted potpourri---instant relaxation!

Today is Day Four of my potpourri simmering on the stove. I've added water each day and enjoyed a wonderful scented kitchen, despite the growing pile of dirty dishes.

Don't have time to assemble Potpourri Jars???

Teachers LOVE handmade cards from students, no matter what the age or ability or media. No time to draw a picture? Tuck a small gift card in with your child's or family photo. Gift cards enjoyed by teachers include Starbucks, Amazon, Book Stores, Local Restaurants, and Nail Salons.

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Mystery, Suspense, and more...Jordan James, PI

9/14/2016

Picture
Ocean view, blue skies, a walk among the cliffs to sandy beaches...the perfect place for a mystery...

Today, I'm welcoming fellow Soul Mate Publishing Author, Rachel Sharpe to talk to us about the setting of one of her Jordan James, PI suspense novels
.

Read on for a chance to win a Jordan James, PI ebook!

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SETTING by Rachel Sharpe

When I first decided to begin the Jordan James, PI series, I only knew two things -  I wanted her to be a private investigator, and I wanted to set the series in New England.

Although I was born and raised just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana, my father’s family is from New England and I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time there.

It is easily one of my favorite vacation destinations for many reasons, including the picture above. I took that picture a few summers’ ago when I visited my cousins on Martha’s Vineyard.

Martha’s Vineyard is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and after that trip, I knew I wanted to set one story on the island, which I did in LOST DISTINCTION.

I have always felt that setting is just as important as character development and plot which is why I have spent so much time choosing the settings for all of my stories.

Thanks, Rachel for sharing the great picture and why you chose an island setting for LOST DISTINCTION.

I'm a big Jordan James, PI fan and recommend the suspense novels to all mystery readers. Take a peek at them, below. Click on the covers to see them on Amazon!

"It was my life-long dream to become a private eye. Little did I know that with my very first case, that dream would become a life-threatening nightmare..."

When Jordan James decided to embark on a career as a private investigator, she never could have imagined that a chance encounter would lead to her staring down the barrel of a gun on the roof’s edge of a high-rise building. As she begins to investigate her first case, the puzzling murder of a prominent businessman that has left Boston’s finest mystified for more than two decades, she finds herself suddenly immersed in a treacherous underworld brimming with betrayal, raw greed, and political subterfuge of international proportions. In the midst of this, she discovers she is falling for her mysterious client despite the hints of his dark past. Can this feisty Southern girl with a penchant for trouble solve this baffling case or is she doomed to become another tragic chapter in an international conspiracy?

With time running out and lives at stake, Jordan must race to identify the culprit of an elaborate plot while also uncovering a far more personal truth too intimate to ignore...
