My spot is at the dining room table, which we use for eating only on special occasions. It became my designated writing spot when I realized I could leave all of my writing stuff there and no one would touch it or be bothered by it. Also, like Sheldon's spot, it is ideally located with views of the kitchen, family room, and front door. The television can also been seen from a distance---far enough to not be distracting, but close enough to catch glimpses the best parts of a movie or show.
This week from my spot...I've been working on edits for my second book, Souls Estranged, and squeezing in a little writing of the third and final book of the Souls Trilogy, Souls Endure. I have to admit...I've been entertained even though my kids are at camp and/or life guarding at the pool. Here's my writing buddy, Monster.
In Souls Entwined, Monster is the inspiration behind behind the cat my character Roxana entwines herself in...a little gray and white cat with huge emerald green eyes.
Yes, she will make a return appearance in Souls Estranged....I named her Emeye---short for Emerald Eyes.
In Souls Entwined, her part was edited out---the squirrel is what Gretta tripped over in the park when she cut her knee. During edits, I changed perspectives and wrote from Sam's view. He stood too far away from Gretta to see the squirrel trip her...but she was there.
In Souls Estranged Katarina returns within the frisky fox squirrel. This time she won't be cut!
In real life...this squirrel is quite the acrobat. I shot a video of it from my spot as it stole sunflower seeds out of the window bird feeder. Since I'm unable to upload video feed, I took a still shot. The squirrel isn't afraid of Monster.
My daughter announced my mistake..."But mom, everything around the characters remained still except the hawk and two black birds. There has to be some kind of reason behind that."
And there is was....the link I needed for the next two novels. The hawk and two black birds suddenly opened a new door in the plot. They return in Souls Estranged and again in Souls Endure.
So much happens from my spot. I like the fact that it is a bench so my husband, kids, or cats can join me as I work. It's my favorite place to be. To anyone else, it's a hard wooden bench. To me, it's MY SPOT.
Do you have a SPOT? Tell me about it. I'm in mine for the next few hours.
Gotta get back to edits:)
