Hello everyone, and thanks SO much to Anne for sharing her blog with me today! I'm here to talk about a special even I'm hosting throughout June to celebrate the release of my latest Harlequin Superromance, A Family Come True. The event, called Authors and Readers for Kids – ARK for short – is a fundraiser for the Alliance For Children Foundation.
Based in Massachusetts, the Foundation, "is committed to providing aid which improves the lives of orphaned and at-risk children and families worldwide." They run a group home in Haiti, provide vaccinations and playgrounds for orphanages in Russia, help subsidize domestic adoptions of older/special needs kids in the United States, and assist in providing family-style living facilities in China – and those are just some of the programs they provide.
Like Anne, my professional background is in early childhood education. I am very aware of the critical need children have to learn, to interact with a safe and supportive environment, and to be cared for as an individual. In my own family, my two youngest – my girls – came to us with the assistance of the Foundation's sister organization, the Alliance for Children. On our adoptive trips to China and Russia I saw the challenges facing the adults running the orphanages and the impact of years in group care on the children.
I can't adopt every needy child across the globe, but with the assistance of some amazing fellow authors, I can help. The ARK details can be found on my website, but here's what it boils down to: all through June, folks who make a donation to the Foundation will be eligible to win a prize given by a very generous author. Anne is just one of the many romance and mystery writers who are supporting this effort. I am immensely grateful for each and every one of them.
The world can be a lonely place for a child whose wishes for a family may never come true. We can help. Please join us, Authors and Readers working together, and help support the health, education, housing, and care of those who need us most.
Thanks, Kris for your amazing efforts in helping children in need.
