Today, I'm welcoming fellow Soul Mate Publishing Author, Rachel Sharpe to talk to us about the setting of one of her Jordan James, PI suspense novels.
Read on for a chance to win a Jordan James, PI ebook!
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SETTING by Rachel Sharpe
When I first decided to begin the Jordan James, PI series, I only knew two things - I wanted her to be a private investigator, and I wanted to set the series in New England.
Although I was born and raised just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana, my father’s family is from New England and I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time there.
It is easily one of my favorite vacation destinations for many reasons, including the picture above. I took that picture a few summers’ ago when I visited my cousins on Martha’s Vineyard.
Martha’s Vineyard is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and after that trip, I knew I wanted to set one story on the island, which I did in LOST DISTINCTION.
I have always felt that setting is just as important as character development and plot which is why I have spent so much time choosing the settings for all of my stories.
Thanks, Rachel for sharing the great picture and why you chose an island setting for LOST DISTINCTION.
I'm a big Jordan James, PI fan and recommend the suspense novels to all mystery readers. Take a peek at them, below. Click on the covers to see them on Amazon!
"It was my life-long dream to become a private eye. Little did I know that with my very first case, that dream would become a life-threatening nightmare..."
When Jordan James decided to embark on a career as a private investigator, she never could have imagined that a chance encounter would lead to her staring down the barrel of a gun on the roof’s edge of a high-rise building. As she begins to investigate her first case, the puzzling murder of a prominent businessman that has left Boston’s finest mystified for more than two decades, she finds herself suddenly immersed in a treacherous underworld brimming with betrayal, raw greed, and political subterfuge of international proportions. In the midst of this, she discovers she is falling for her mysterious client despite the hints of his dark past. Can this feisty Southern girl with a penchant for trouble solve this baffling case or is she doomed to become another tragic chapter in an international conspiracy?

“What started out as a star-studded vacation has turned into a sensational avalanche...”
When private investigator Jordan James decided to join her best friend on the set of her hit television series in the Rocky Mountains, she had no idea she would become a key player in a murder mystery more suited for the big screen than the slopes. My absolute favorite sweet is chocolate. Pair a Hershey bar with a sweet romance and I'm able to escape from reality for at least an hour...or until one of my kids figure out I have a secret stash of Hershey bars!
Today multi-published author, D.R. Grady is blogging about the settings of her books---Hershey, Pennsylvania! Welcome, D.R.!
Hershey is touted to be the sweetest place on earth, according to their billboards. Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know, but I do know I love the feel of Hershey, (except during heavy tourist season, when you have to wait in major traffic) and the amazing smell!
Who wouldn’t place a romance in such an enticing locale?
Usually Hershey is redolent in milk chocolate scents and that’s definitely sweet! My books are also touted as sweet, so it seemed appropriate to set them in the sweetest place on earth.
Hershey is clean, wholesome, and sweet, exactly like my books.
All three of my series, the Me Series, the Dragon Chronicles, and the Morrison Family series are set there. The Morrison Family series is centered around nerds and Hershey, two of my favorites. Nerds Unite, the latest release, and book ten of the series, features Leo and Katy who live and work in Hershey.
It’s a fictional Hershey, as I’ve added to it and taken some things away, as we writers do. However, Hershey forms the backdrop for a sweet story about two best friends who soon discover their feelings for each other aren’t so sweet.
Life is full of promise for Katy Greene. New town. New job. New BFF. Everything is great...except for the creepy feeling that someone is watching her.
After they confirm Katy’s stalker is real, she has some explaining to do to BFF Leo de Vosse. Not to mention some explaining to herself. When did her feelings for Leo turn into something more than friendship? The stakes are high as she fights for her life with the stalker, and for her heart with Leo.
Sounds like a great story in a sweet setting!

Thanks D.R. for sharing your Sweet Setting with us.....and now....an excerpt from NERDS UNITE
“What do you mean what’s wrong?” Katy eyed him in dismay, so certain she had managed to hide her fears.
Of course Leo had picked up on them—at least the tension in her body. He spent enough time in her personal space, more time than Trixi, who would also pick up her vibes if she wasn’t trampling Mark’s personal space so much these days.
“You’re tense, not sleeping, and you’re starting to jump at little noises.” Leo’s eyebrows nearly met over the bridge of his nose.
He led them into the living room and firmly pointed to the couch. She sat, a little belligerent.
With little fanfare, he dropped beside her. His shoulders were squared, mouth grim.
She took a deep breath, not certain she could explain what was going on. “The reason I haven’t said anything is because I’m not certain there is a problem.”
“Your instincts are telling you there is. Regardless of what your intellect is telling you.”
Katy shoved a hand through her hair. “What should I do?”
“Tell me what’s happening.” There was a thread of surgical steel hidden in his tone.
This looming dread had followed her to Hershey, so she had been carrying it a long time. Maybe it was time to unload it.
“At my residency in Maryland,” she started.
“I was working long hours, as you know.” All residents and fellows did, and Leo would have during his own final training period. “Anyway, I was there a lot, so I got to know all the people who were in any way connected to the trauma unit."
It wasn’t pleasant to relive this. “During that time there were a couple of men who made remarks, some subtle, some overt.”
“What kind of remarks?” From his tight jaw, Katy figured he had a good idea.
“Just the typical garbage jerks say to women.”
His jaw looked in danger of cracking.
“Most of the men didn’t give me trouble, a few even became good friends. But there was a small percentage that I avoided whenever possible.”
“Except it wasn’t always possible,” he surmised.
“No. Especially the one who ranked among the ‘distinguished’ specialists in the trauma field. He knew what he was doing and was excellent at his job, but...” she trailed off, uncertain how to proceed.
“But he came on to you?”
“Yeah.” Her heart dropped as a jittery energy flooded her. “His wife had died nine months or so before I arrived and he said he was ready to get out in the dating scene again. For whatever reason, I became his top pick. I reminded him that I got very little time off.”
“He assured you he could make certain you had time off.”
“Yes. Of course the catch was that I had to spend it with him.” Bile rose into her throat.
“I’m guessing you didn’t find him attractive?”
“No. He gave me the willies. There were at least two men there who did. Maybe more. Definitely him and a maintenance man were the two I avoided the most.”
“This surgeon made life difficult for you after he figured out you weren’t interested?”
She nodded, trying to forget his little campaign of terror. “The only saving grace was that there was another surgeon, the head of the department and happily married with grandkids, and he noticed. I think he talked to the other man and set him straight.”
“And it helped?”
Katy shrugged. “The lecher just took his efforts underground. He knew our boss wouldn’t tolerate any unprofessional behavior from him, so he kept it subtle afterward.”
“That’s called harassment.”
“Yes, it is.” She swallowed the bile still trying to creep up her throat.
“What happened?” A muscle in Leo’s jaw ticked.
Sweet and Suspensful! Kind of like a chocolate bar....gonna eat one now:)

The Dragon Chronicles Book 3: Healing
Ewain Douglass and Marissa Mays are dedicated healers who work together, and live together, in tight confines. Too bad they set sparks off each other. They might struggle to remain professional to each other, but they’re working on it. Then the enemy sets his sight on the unmated, and targets Marissa with a vengeance.
Meanwhile, Lindy and Alex, the dragon and her controller, are still seeking to learn all they can about their abilities and their future. They tremble once they learn the identity of an enemy no one wants to face. One only the dragon has a chance to defeat.
The dragon has called her allies together and many have come. Paranym soon becomes crowded with the family members of family members. A war for their very lives looms. Ewain and Marissa don’t have time to declare it on each other.
I’m thrilled to have D.R. Grady, author of
The Dragon Chronicles Book 3: Healing here today.
A fellow SMP author, D.R. Grady writes Paranormal/Fantasy for YA/NA and releases the final book in her Dragon Chronicles Trilogy today.
I've had the honor to preview this novel and I am very excited to celebrate its release. Will tell more about the book soon, but first let's chat with D.R. Grady!
Welcome and congratulations on your release and final book of the trilogy. Wow! what an accomplishment! What inspired you to write this novel?
Healing is the final conclusion of the series. So everything needs to be tied up. This is about the world needing to be balanced again. And the dragon and her allies must provide that balance.
I understand how difficult it can be to write a final book to a trilogy...making sure all is in order can be a daunting task...not to mention having to say good bye to characters you've written a series on can be quite emotional.
Are your characters or plots based on anyone or experiences in real life? Or are they completely fictitious?
They are both. The characters are entirely fictitious, as elves, shifters, gargoyles, and other paranormal beings don’t exist. But the plot throughout the three books are identifiable. From learning your life isn’t going to turn out how you planned it (book 1), to not fitting in (book 2), to finding balance in a chaotic world (book 3).
That is something I love about writing...connectable, real life lessons at our fingertips. Teens through adults will absolutely relate to your characters.
Healing is book three of The Dragon Chronicles. Did you plan it to be a three book series or did it develop into one?
This began and finished as a three part series. Some of the characters whose stories I couldn’t delve into because there wasn’t time or space intrigue me though. So could there be a spin-off series? I’m not shutting the door on that possibility!
I'd love to read a spin-off!
When did you start writing and why?
I started writing when I discovered the magic of stringing words together to form sentences, then paragraphs.
Who is your favorite author?
Jayne Ann Krentz. Her intellect amazes me, and her humor is wonderful. I love how she uses words to spin a tale I am eager to read and re-read.
Writers are always readers. What genre do you like to read the most?
Contemporary romance, followed by paranormal, and I have no idea why those two resonate with me!
What is the last book you read or are currently reading?
Dark Promises by Christine Feehan.
Fast & Furious questions: Please answer using as few words as possible.
Favorite Ice Cream? Chocolate
Favorite Super Hero? Superwoman
Favorite Princess? Katherine, the Duchess of Cambridge
Favorite tv show when you were a kid? Scooby Doo
Food you can’t stand? Seafood
What annoys you? Rude people
Jeans or Sweatpants? Sweatpants
The day is not complete without… Chocolate
One Word that best describes yourself… Pickable
I'm right there with you on the Chocolate, Scooby Doo and Rude people!
Thanks, D.R. for stopping by and congratulations again on release day for Healing.

And Now....Enjoy an excerpt from The Dragon Chronicles Book 3: Healing
“Marissa, are you okay?” Ewain’s voice reverberated above her, but he sounded like he spoke through a long tunnel. She grasped the edge of the bench to keep upright.
But remaining vertical proved difficult since dizziness added disharmony to her fuzzy brain, upset tummy, and clammy sweat. The fusion of those factors was important. How so kept escaping her though, like a mischievous kitten intent on not being caught.
“Marissa?” The questioning note in Ewain’s voice was still evident, but accompanied by alarm now. She wished she could reassure him, but her tongue grew too large for her mouth.
Words wouldn’t form, even if her brain could have conjured them, which it didn’t seem capable of. She wanted to speak, to reassure him she was fine, but due to current evidence, her state of health might be questionable.
Shaking her head did nothing more than allow the hank of hair behind her ear to escape and tickle her face again. She couldn’t summon the energy to tuck it back into place. The action also called to attention the sudden, massive headache now clamoring in conjunction with her other alarming symptoms.
Symptoms. That word meant something. Usually it was involved in the diagnosis of an illness. Illness. A state of unwellness. Unwell—an accurate definition for how she felt.
When her final thought sluggishly formed, she finally admitted there might be a problem. But by then the black spots swirling in front of her eyes finally surged into full-on blackness, and she gave in to the encroaching darkness.
Ahhh! A cliff hanger...I won't tell what happens. I will say Healing is an exciting tale, combining fantasy, paranormal, YA/NA, and sweet romance. I highly recommend Healing and the entire Dragon Chronicles Series to Teens and Adults who love adventure, romance, and a touch of 'Harry Potter'.

Fans of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson?
The Dragon Chronicles Series will grab hold of you and soar into the night!
Here is a look at Book Two: Shifting
The Dragon Chronicles Book 2: Shifting
Dr. Keely Bennett, a healer at Paranym University, can’t shift.
Her mate, Hugh Blackwolfe doesn’t mind—but his pack sure does. Hugh is the strongest alpha on the east coast and the pack’s single females challenge Keely, forcing her to find a shifter willing to meet and win this challenge for her, so that she and Hugh can mate.
Keely’s dragon best friend, Lindy, with her controller and mate, Alex, also struggle with shifting. They must learn the nuances of how Lindy shifts, and soon.
After several random attacks, and with an unknown enemy gunning for all of them, time may be running out. As if Keely doesn’t already feel unworthy, the dragon appears to be calling everyone but her to her team of allies.
I'm a big fan of this series---set in a paranormal school, characters with shifting abilities deal with an unknown evil terrorizing the students and teachers of Paranym University. Expertly written, readers can pick up Book Two without necessarily reading Book One. But once you get a taste of the Dragon Chronicles, you will be scrambling to read more! Teens on up will enjoy this sweet romantic paranormal. Read on for a peek inside.
A vehicle careened into the compound. It scattered wolves as it barreled into the circle, and with a screeching of brakes that nearly burst his eardrums, halted right in front of him.
The crazy driver spilled from the vehicle and the fresh scent of his mate soothed the fire. Keely.
He took a deeper breath, pulling her inside so it didn’t hurt as bad.
Cool fingers brushed over his face. Keely’s scent washed over him, stronger than before. “Hugh, stay with me.” Her voice was like salve to his throbbing ears.
“You need to get your brakes fixed.”
A startled laugh burst from her and still those cool fingers. Something tugged at his shirt. When had he shifted back to his human form?
He stilled and reached out to grasp Keely’s wrist. “You can’t be here.”
“Nonsense. I’m a healer. You’re my mate.” Cool morning air danced over his side where the rabid wolf had slashed him. It felt good.
Until Keely applied something that stung like fire antag poison. He jackknifed, clamping a hand over his fiery side and gaped at her. His heart leaped in his chest. She was fresh and dewy as the morning, her soothing scent surrounding him. Yet the worry in her eyes and the grim lines around her mouth stole from the picture.
“Okay, into the truck with you.” She hunkered to help him gain his feet.
“Um, Keely.” Jason stepped forward. His eyebrows touched over his nose.
“Help me get him into my vehicle.”
The command in her voice sent Jason into motion. He gestured to another man, a beta named Brian. Both men shouldered his weight as Keely yanked open the passenger door. She directed them to fasten Hugh in the passenger seat. Then she turned to his betas.
“Destroy this wolf.” She pointed to the dead brown wolf. “Make certain you cleanse the earth far below and surrounding it.”
Jason nodded. “We will.”
“Keep all the young close. Do not allow them out alone. And none of you should wander off into the woods alone either.” Keely glanced around the circle. “You also need to start arming yourselves. Shoot anything rabid on sight.”
She rounded the front of the vehicle. It took her mere seconds to turn the engine and roar out of the compound.
“Keely,” he stated, but the inferno flashed through him, turning his insides to liquid. Hugh clamped his teeth instead.
“Just stay quiet.”
“What did you do?”
“I applied something to thwart the rabies, at least slow it down. I’ve never used it on a powerful alpha before though.”
“It slows the process?”
“Yes, usually.” Her mouth tightened.
“But again, you’re a powerful alpha. I don’t know if it will work on you.”
“You can at least slow it down?” Maybe he could set his affairs and pack in order before he died.
“Yes. This way we can figure out a cure.”
His exclamation strangled as more intense heat melted his internal organs. “Baby, there is no cure for this. I’m dying.”
Her glare further scalded him. “I’m a healer.” Keely’s sniff even stopped some of the flashfire as it spread, igniting everything inside him.
Nausea churned his stomach. “I really wanted to mate with you.” Clammy sweat coated his body.
“If you give up on me, Hugh Blackwolfe . . .” Her jaw hardened.
His lips curled for a moment, before he snarled through the pain. “I love you too.”
Ooo, the suspense!
I love the way D.R. Grady writes real life situations while keeping with a paranormal feel and story line. The relationships between the characters are real and focus on friends, coworkers, and mates. Action and adventure packed, The Dragon Chronicles immerse readers into the paranormal world in a way you think dragons, elves, and shifters just may be real. It is what I call Realistic Fantasy and makes for great reading. Both Book One and Book Two are available on amazon.com. Click the cover above or here to find them.

I love visiting my sister-in-law's cottage located on a western NY lake. Sitting on her porch as the sun rises or sets is the perfect time to read one of Katie O'Boyle's books! meet romance author, Katie O’Boyle---
Thanks for having me today, Anne, for an interview and a giveaway of Waking Up To Love.
Katie, who’s the first guy to make you swoon?
Oh my! That would be Big Mike, When I was maybe 19. He was a big rugged guy just back from Nam, and there was something dangerous under the gentle surface. Handsome as hell and a great kisser. Popular at the time was the song that went something like, “The first time ever I saw your face, I thought the sun rose in your eyes, and the moon and stars were the gifts you gave to the dark and endless sky.” Unforgettable.
Besides writing, what do you do to satisfy your creative side?
Photography makes my soul sing! I’ve always loved taking pictures, and the hobby took on a spiritual dimension after a couple of retreats with the theme “photography as meditation.” I’ve posted some pictures from a recent trip on my Facebook.
Check out these amazing pictures taken by Katie!
Absolutely beautiful! I love the stone backgrounds along with the vibrant flowers. Thanks for sharing!
What’s your thinking about using a pseudonym?
Pen names serve many purposes! I’m now writing under my own name, but I started out publishing as “Katie O’Boyle.” At the time, I was still working in higher education (where genre fiction is frowned upon!) and I was publishing professionally, so I didn’t want colleagues googling my professional name for articles and coming up with my romance novels. When I cast around for a pen name, I thought of my beloved cousin Cathy Boyle who was such a romantic and such a good influence on my life growing up. She passed away as I was writing the first Lakeside Porches romance, and I think of that series as a tribute to her. I’ve kept the pseudonym for the romances I write.
What advice would you give to new writers?
Be true to your voice, and work hard to develop it! For me, the best move was joining a professional organization in my genre and taking advantage of the workshops, online chapters, critique opportunities, contest, and so on.
What genre or genres do you write?
I have a series of four contemporary romance books (Lakeside Porches) that explore aspects of alcoholism and recovery, published with Soulmate Publishing. My first and biggest love, though, is mystery, and I’m writing a series of traditional mysteries set in the same Finger Lakes city as the Lakseide Porches novels, Tompkins Falls.
What’s your current WIP?
I have two books in progress right now. One is a mystery, A Necessary Murder, the second in the Tompkins Falls Mystery series. I’m also writing a new romance series Harmony@Cady’s Point, about healing and hope. The heroine of the first Harmony book is the girlfriend of the man killed in A Necessary Murder. For me, there’s an intellectual side to murder, following the clues to find the murderer, and there’s also a fascinating human side that speaks to those who loved the victim, how they heal and move on from the tragedy.
I love reading mystery, especially following clues to figure out who did it!
Let’s have an excerpt from Waking Up To Love!
Lyssa fixed a mug of chamomile tea and carried it into the bedroom. Moonlight streamed through the French door. Hunkered nearby was the last packing box, the one marked ‘Miscellaneous.’
She folded back the flaps. Justin had said Kyle wanted to send some things she’d left behind at Pennington House. There, on top, were her hiking shoes, the ones she’d ruined on the cliff path when the squall interrupted her last cliff walk with him.
She lifted one shoe out of the box. The groundkeeper had cleaned and conditioned the leather. Sweet of him. She touched it all over, loving how soft and firm the leather was. The scrapes where she’d slid down the stone steps were just faint patches. The sole had not a trace of dirt or gravel or grass or salt spray.
She inhaled the smell of leather and shoe oil. And maybe a trace of rain off the Atlantic. And the scent left by Kyle’s strong square hands as he’d nestled the shoe in the box. She hugged the boot to her chest and let a few tears fall before reaching back into the box.
Just visible under its mate was a letter.

Peeling of the apple to determine sweetheart
“We will commence with the peeling,” Lady Katharine carried over the giggles that broke out across the room.
“Each unmarried female is to receive one. Distribute them quickly,” the noblewoman ordered.
A servant came by and handed Kallen an apple, winking as he did so. The gesture surprised her.
“Gentlemen, please hand over your eating knives to any nearby ladies. Ladies, you may begin peeling when you are ready. And don’t forget, you must peel in one long strand and recite the rhyme for true love to avail itself.”
Kallen turned to Lord Griffith. His scowl frightened her as much as the angry red band now surrounding his body.
Lady Katharine appeared before them. “Are you ready to peel your apple?”
Kallen shook her head. “I am not familiar with this custom, my lady.”
“I shall help you.” Their hostess turned to Griffith. “Your paring knife, my lord?”
Griffith handed his knife to Kallen, his jaw set as if in stone.
“Begin to peel your apple’s skin and recite after me. And mind that ‘tis in one long strand.”
Kallen’s fingers shook. She took a deep breath to steady herself.
”I pare this apple round and round again, my sweetheart’s name to flourish on the plain.”
She began peeling, repeating after her hostess.
“I fling the unbroken paring o’er my head, my sweetheart’s letter on the ground to read.”
Kallen absently repeated the words but concentrated more on removing the peel. Fortunately, the knife did not slip, and soon she’d sliced till she had one long swirl.
“Excellent, Lady Kallen,” Lord Percival told her as he came to stand next to his wife. “You peeled accurately and with remarkable speed. What other hidden talents have you kept from us?”
She felt her face flame. “’Tis not hard to peel an apple, my lord. I’m even more talented with potatoes,” she added glibly.
“Toss it over your left shoulder,” he said.
She did as instructed and turned to see that the peel had fallen directly upon Lord Griffith’s left boot.
“Don’t move, Lord Griffith,” Lady Katharine commanded.” She bent to the ground and studied the shape.
Kallen knelt beside her. “What are we looking for?”
“The peel should form a letter and tell who your sweetheart is.”
She glanced at the peel. “’Tis no letter that I recognize, and that makes sense. I have no sweetheart nor plan to acquire one any time soon.”
The older woman sniffed. “’Twould have been easy to read had it not landed upon Lord Griffith’s foot. We cannot determine your true love this way, Lady Kallen.”
Kallen’s blush ran up her neck and spilled onto her cheeks. “Nay, my lady. I tell you I have no sweetheart.”
The noblewoman studied her. “You may not know, but the apples always do.” She smoothed her hands along her surcoat. “We cannot try this test again tonight. ‘Twould be bad luck.”
Lady Katharine thought for a moment and then smiled. “We shall use a snail instead.”
Snails? Sounds Interesting! I have to admit...I already read A Knight For Kallen and loved the way historical romance melded together with a touch of paranormal---genre bending at its best!

The heavy hands and sharp tongues of Bella Smithson’s family have left her almost too timid to converse with a gentleman, much less conduct a husband hunt. Unfortunately, her overbearing aunt and managing cousin are determined to help her escape her black-hearted father and brothers.
Thanks to the Prince of Wales, retiring shipping magnate Myron Clewes has an ever-growing fortune, a fresh-minted peerage, a brand-new flagship, and an impossible set of requirements for a bride. Not least, she must be willing to leave England and everything she knows, possibly for good, in less than two months’ time.
Bella’s Happy-Ever-After in Royal Regard had its origins in a Happier-Than-She-Expected with her first husband, Baron Holsworthy, who gave her the confidence to steady her sea legs, take her life by the helm, and command her own voice, empowering a shy, young girl and unlikely adventurer to grow into one of King George IV’s trusted advisors.

Mariana Gabrielle is a pen name for Mari Christie, who is not romantic--at all. Therefore, her starry-eyed alter ego lives vicariously through characters who believe in their own happy-ever-afters. And believe they must, as Mariana loves her heroes and heroines, but truly dotes on her villains, and almost all of her characters' hearts have been bruised, broken, and scarred long before they reach the pages of her books.
She is a professional writer, editor, and designer with almost twenty-five years’ experience, and a member of the Bluestocking Belles, the Writing Wenches, and the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. She has written two Regency romances, Royal Regard and La Déesse Noire: The Black Goddess, and will soon release three Royal Regard prequel novellas and a mainstream historical, Blind Tribute.
Excerpt from Shipmate:
“Lord Holsworthy, have you any objection to secular thinkers?”
“Isabella!” she heard from behind, her Aunt Minerva apparently unwilling to allow Bella to ruin everything by appearing to be a godless bluestocking.
“My lady?” Bella queried.
“Do tell the baron about your work with the village school. She does quite well there, Lord Holsworthy. All of the tenants’ children attend. Isabella is excellent with children. She’s had a hand in raising my own sons, Lady Firthley’s brothers. She will be an excellent mother for any man who might marry her.”
Bella fell silent, face burning again.
“A village school, Miss Smithson? I am intrigued. I admit, I am less an evangelist for the teachings of John Wesley than educating the heathen in the English tongue, the rule of law, and the principles of economic freedom.”
The topic carried them some time, he contributing stories of similar enterprises he had both observed and financed in foreign climes, she detailing the structure she had helped create in Evercreech and at Brittlestep Manor, during the course of her regular work about the estate.
“Do you mean to say, Miss Smithson, you undertake management of your aunt and uncle’s estate?”
“No. No, of course not. Not in any meaningful way. Only… I oversee things when the household removes to London. They move staff, so I stay behind with a few maids and footmen…” Bella trailed off, aware in an instant she had just irreparably branded herself the poor relation. How she would be able to help that, though, she had never understood, as she was naught but an extra upper servant at Brittlestep Manor.
“Am I to understand you are not averse to a mop and broom, Miss Smithson?”
“I am not averse to honest work, my lord. I did not spend my entire life at the manor house, nor my time there at ease. Admittedly, as a member of the family, I am more familiar with household management than household tasks.”
Though he faced forward, his fingers tightened momentarily on hers, and she caught the smile in the corner of his mouth.

Madelyn is a multi-published romance novelist and has always loved the written word. From the time she could read and all through her school years, she'd sneak books into her textbooks during school. And she devoured books daily. At the age of 10 she proclaimed she wanted to be a writer. After being a "closet" writer for several years, she sent her manuscripts out there and is now published with Soul Mate Publishing. And she couldn't be happier!
A resident of Western New York, she moved from one Rochester to another Rochester to be with the love of her life. They now have 3 children and keep busy cooking, watching their children's sporting events, and of course reading!
Moms of busy kids sure get a lot of reading and writing time at practices and in between sporting events! Thanks for sharing Heather in the Mist with us today---I loved the book and recommend it to adult readers who are fans of romance.

Time Travel, YA Novel, Classic Athens Setting, an Amazing Author---Dancing in the Athenian Rain has it all!
When Donna is sent back in time to Classical Athens, she's furious at Dr. Stephens for sending her against her wishes. Then a Greek soldier purchases her to be his wife.
She's forced to learn a new language and culture, and faces her fears of never returning to her own time. The society hates her, especially because they think she’s an Amazon, which forces her to confront her issues—being compared to her genius brother, borderline abusive friends, and a cheating boyfriend.
But her husband, Peleus, is kind and patient. Although against her best judgment, she allows him into her heart. He counters all the negative voices from her past, but those voices drive a wedge between them. She must let go of her fears, her inhibitions, and insecurities, and admit her feelings, or she could lose him and the life they’ve built.
Being a HUGE fan of time travel and mythology, I read this book in less than two sittings. I especially liked how the story combined paranormal aspects with historical facts AND captured the essence of teens dealing with real life issues.
FIVE Stars from Anne and I recommend Dancing in the Athenian Rain to mature teens and adults who enjoy time travel and sweet romance.
Author of several YA/NA books, Katie was born and raised in Australia. Her early years of day dreaming in the “bush”, and having her father tell her wild bedtime stories, inspired her passion for writing.
After graduating High School, she became a foreign exchange student where she met a young man who several years later she married. Now she lives in Arizona with her husband, daughter and their dog.
She has a diploma in travel and tourism which helps inspire her writing. She currently works as an Acquisitions Editor with Curiosity Quills Press to help support her family.
Katie loves to out sing her friends and family, play sports and be a good wife and mother. She loves to write, and takes the few spare moments in her day to work on her novels.
