I LOVED Cold Ambition, the first book in the Jordan James PI series, and can't wait to read this one! Today I have Rachel sharing 5 secrets behind LOST DISTINCTION. Welcome Rachel!
#5 New England
I chose to set the Jordan James, PI series in New England because, besides my hometown of New Orleans, it’s my favorite place. I have family there and try to visit once a year. In Lost Distinction, Jordan travels to Martha’s Vineyard. I am fortunate enough to have cousins who vacation there and had the opportunity to stay on the Vineyard during one of my visits. It’s probably the most beautiful place I have ever seen.
Similar to my reason for setting the series in New England, my reason for bringing Jordan to London in book two was because I went there as a kid and loved it. England is an amazing place, both foreign and familiar at the same time. For Jordan’s first foreign case, I couldn’t think of a better place to send her than London.
Because of my love for New England or maybe another reason for it is my fascination with the Kennedy family. If there ever was American royalty, they were it. The Kennedy family was the inspiration for the Cross family and the case itself.
There was a romantic comedy in the ‘90s starring Alicia Silverstone and Brendan Fraser called Blast from the Past. In it, a man who grew up in a bomb shelter isolated from the world meets a modern woman and is smitten by her. In one scene, they go dancing at a jazz nightclub. That club is the inspiration for the club Rick takes Jordan to in London.
The private boarding school for boys where Arthur Cross teaches and both he and Rick attended was loosely based on the high school my brother attended. I felt it was very important for there to be a strong bond between Arthur and Rick and a bond like that often forms during high school.
